Fresh air, fantastic scenery, and 6.5 miles of walking made for an unforgettable half-term adventure
Getting outdoors and challenging ourselves is a huge part of what Roots™ is all about. During half term, a small group headed to the Peak District for a day of walking, exploration, and adventure.
With Lily and Claire leading the way, the team set off to enjoy one of the UK’s most beautiful outdoor landscapes. Although it was only a day trip, it gave us everything we could have hoped for: stunning views, great company, and plenty of moments to build confidence together.
We completed a 6.5-mile walk through the Peaks, taking in the changing scenery and enjoying time away from the distractions of everyday life. The weather couldn’t have been better – not too hot, not too cold – creating ideal conditions for hiking and making the journey enjoyable from start to finish.
The trip also gave us a chance to give Vimto a well-deserved run out. More importantly, it allowed us to experience the freedom and sense of achievement that comes from taking on a physical challenge outdoors together.
Walking in nature brings benefits far beyond physical fitness. Throughout the day, we built resilience, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Whether navigating the route, supporting each other on steeper sections, or simply lifting each other’s spirits when legs got tired, everyone played their part.
One of the real highlights was watching confidence grow with every mile. What can feel like a daunting distance at the start quickly becomes something manageable when it’s broken down, shared, and achieved together.
Trips like these show the power of outdoor experiences. They encourage us to step outside our comfort zones, grow in independence, and discover what we’re truly capable of.
By the time we made it back home, there was a shared sense of pride and accomplishment. It may have been just one day in the Peaks, but the memories, laughter, and lessons will stay with us for a long time.
