Building Confidence and Community Through People, Activities, and Shared Experiences

Project Room is a welcoming sanctuary at the heart of Roots – a dedicated space where young people can congregate, unwind, and truly feel part of something positive. More than just a meeting place, it provides a safe and supportive environment where members can spend time with friends, express themselves creatively, and develop valuable life skills in a space they are proud to call their own.

Designed around both social connection and personal development, Project Room offers a wide range of engaging activities and facilities. Members can relax around the pool table or dart board, take part in board games and creative workshops, or use the computers for learning, research, and digital projects. Fine art, painting, and hands-on creative activities encourage self-expression while helping to build confidence, patience, and focus.

One of the most exciting elements of Project Room is the podcast recording equipment, giving members the opportunity to create and record podcasts discussing topical issues such as Net Zero, inclusion, mental health, and the challenges affecting young people today. These sessions help develop communication skills, confidence, teamwork, and critical thinking, while allowing members to have their voices heard in a meaningful and empowering way.

Importantly, Project Room also encourages responsibility and ownership. Members are trusted to help maintain and care for the space, creating a sense of pride and accountability within the group. Some participants even progress into becoming keyholders, giving them additional responsibility and helping build trust, leadership skills, and independence.

Above all, Project Room is about belonging. It gives young people a consistent, positive base where they feel safe, supported, and valued – a place where friendships are formed, confidence grows, and real roots are established for the future.

What The Community Says

"Synergy joined us back in 2021 with a keen gang of young people. Admittedly we were quite skeptical about their ambitious plans and agreed to provide them with a plot expecting them to give up after a few months! But here we are 5 years later, they have absolutely transformed 5 plots and have become an integral part of our community. We even have them representing young people on our Committee, they have supported us with delivering projects across the site and helped some of the older community with fixing sheds and odd jobs. We are delighted to have them here and hope they continue to introduce young people to growing food, horticulture and nature."
