Helping young people connect with nature, build confidence, and create brighter futures – with support from The National Lottery Community Fund

The National Lottery Community Fund supports projects that help people and communities thrive through learning, wellbeing, personal development, and social connection. Thanks to funding made possible by National Lottery players, organisations can deliver meaningful projects that create lasting positive change.

A key focus of the Fund’s work is helping people build confidence, develop practical skills, improve wellbeing, and strengthen their connection to the world around them. This includes supporting opportunities for outdoor learning, personal growth, and community participation.

Through its support of Roots, The National Lottery Community Fund has helped create a range of opportunities for young people across North East Lincolnshire. Funding has supported projects including Lanzalotty, where young people learn food-growing skills while building confidence and responsibility, and Binbrook Woods, where participants develop resilience through bushcraft and outdoor learning experiences.

Support has also enabled Rooted in Nature, providing a safe space for young people to relax and reconnect with nature, alongside Routes, which opens access to outdoor adventures that encourage confidence, teamwork, and personal achievement. The Fund has further supported environmental education through Wanna Be a Net Zero Hero?, helping young people understand climate change and adopt more sustainable habits.

By investing in projects that combine nature, wellbeing, learning, and community engagement, The National Lottery Community Fund continues to help organisations like Roots create opportunities that empower young people with valuable skills, experiences, and confidence for the future.

What The Community Says

"We met Synergy in 2017 as we needed support with accessing grant funding. Since then we have formed a really strong partnership that has enables us to completely renovate our facilities and engage more young people in rural activities. The young people that attend Synergy are some of the kindest, most polite and dedicated young people we have come across and we love having them here at the Centre to enjoy all sorts of rural activities."
