Roots frame

Jack is a confident leader and dedicated team player who, as a Director, plays an active role in delivering activities and supporting others to get involved

Jack has been attending Roots activities since 2023, after being introduced to us by his sister. Known as the “Old Man” of the group, he naturally looks out for the younger boys, encouraging their love of football, PS5 and the outdoors. Jack really shines as a youth leader on our Routes hikes, motivating others, helping them through difficult climbs, and supporting them to succeed in extreme challenges.

As a trusted key holder and Director, Jack regularly opens Project Room so younger members can access activities and feel welcomed. He also loves spending time at the Lanzalotty and often brings along his younger brother, Tyler, who enjoys digging huge holes and picking blackberries and raspberries.

Roots and Me...

What’s your favourite memory from your time here?

I love all the hiking we have done, having the chance to get out of Grimsby and visit places such as Peak District, Lake District and Wales. My favourite walk has to be the Dragon’s Back in the Peak District an epic walk with lots of scrambling and nearly blown off the top!

What’s something you’ve learned here that you didn’t expect to?

Learning all about mountaineering, keeping everyone safe, working as a team, navigation skills and being committed to completing the hike has been a real highlight for me and has encouraged me to continue this into my adult years and probably for the rest of my life.

What’s changed in your life since joining Roots?

Roots has made me a better person, more confident, more outgoing and able to handle responsibility. It gives me a real sense of pride knowing that I can be a great role model especially for the boys that don’t have a significant male role model in their lives, which is how I grew up.
